Position Overview

Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech is seeking two full-time Educators for Hearing Impaired Children to enhance our educational team. These roles involve providing specialized auditory-oral instruction for toddlers and preschoolers in a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a nurturing atmosphere that promotes independence, creativity, and respect for both materials and individuals.
  • Guide children through a curriculum that is centered on their developmental needs, fostering problem-solving abilities and foundational knowledge for future learning.
  • Create a welcoming space for parents, encouraging their involvement and providing support in their parenting journey with hearing-impaired children.
  • Monitor and document children's progress to build comprehensive developmental profiles for reporting purposes.
  • Enhance auditory and language learning opportunities within the classroom setting.
  • Support effective communication among students and ensure the transfer of learning experiences between classroom and individualized sessions.
  • Act as a facilitator, diagnostician, and observer in the classroom.
  • Engage students in both individual and small group activities that promote the development of auditory and spoken language skills.
  • Provide diagnostic insights regarding the auditory and spoken language abilities of hearing-impaired students through various assessment methods.
  • Educate and guide parents with follow-up activities that will aid in their child's communication skill development.
  • Collaborate with the director to discuss individual student needs and ensure consistent communication with parents.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan classroom activities tailored to the children's interests and developmental requirements.
  • Attend relevant workshops and meetings to further enhance knowledge and skills in the field of hearing impairment.
  • Contribute to the Individualized Educational Plans for hearing-impaired children by providing targeted goals in cognitive, motor, social-emotional, auditory, speech, and language development.
  • Prepare and submit semi-annual reports on student progress in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents through a designated notebook to inform them about their children's development in audition, speech, and language.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Preferred training in auditory/oral education for hearing-impaired children and experience in parent counseling.
  • Master's degree in Education is required.
  • Master's degree in Education of the Deaf is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Eligibility for Florida certification as a teacher of the deaf is essential.
  • Willingness to meet additional requirements set by contracting school districts, including ESOL and site-specific accreditation or licensing standards.
