Overview

The role of the Trade Compliance Specialist is pivotal in ensuring adherence to federal regulations governing international trade. This position involves:

  • Preparation of export and import licenses and agreements to facilitate global business operations, including the employment of foreign personnel and overseas manufacturing.
  • Interpretation of governmental communications and provision of strategic guidance to stakeholders.
  • Establishment and maintenance of relationships with government licensing authorities to effectively communicate the company's licensing and technology positions.
  • Analysis of business initiatives in accordance with regulatory requirements, advising management on compliant execution.
  • Conducting training sessions for staff and aiding in the development and implementation of policies to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Development and execution of audits on internal controls and procedures to verify compliant transactions.
  • Support during external audits and inquiries from U.S. governmental agencies such as Customs and the Departments of State and Commerce.
  • Influencing product development decisions through thorough technical jurisdictional analysis to align with business strategies while maintaining compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert with extensive knowledge in the field and project management.
  • Manage significant, complex project initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Communicate effectively within and outside the organization to advocate for changes in practices and processes.
  • Drive improvements in processes, systems, or products.
  • Provide insights into new products and processes, implementing operational plans that yield measurable business results.
  • Work independently towards achieving individual annual goals with minimal supervision.
  • Offer guidance, coaching, and training to colleagues across the organization.
  • Oversee large, strategic project initiatives involving cross-functional teams.
  • Engage with customers and vendors to communicate effectively.
  • Work to persuade others to accept team perspectives and changes in practices.
  • Report to leadership on matters of significance to the business area.
  • Focus on enhancing job performance through significant improvements in processes and systems.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the job area typically gained through advanced education and relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience are required.
  • Familiarity with U.S. import, export, and licensing regulations, including EAR and ITAR regulations.
  • Experience with DECCS, SNAP-R, and ACE systems is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of an active Security Clearance.
  • Experience with FMS Trade Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Consent Agreements.
  • Familiarity with OCR EASE.
  • Understanding of Trade Tariffs and Commodity Classifications.
