Overview
The role of the Trade Compliance Specialist is crucial in ensuring adherence to federal regulations governing international trade. This position involves:
- Preparing necessary export and import licenses and agreements to facilitate international business operations, including foreign employment, overseas manufacturing, and partnerships with international entities.
- Interpreting governmental communications and providing strategic guidance to relevant stakeholders.
- Building and maintaining relationships with government licensing authorities to effectively communicate and advocate for the company's licensing and technology positions.
- Evaluating business initiatives against regulatory standards and advising management on compliant practices.
- Conducting training sessions for staff and aiding in the development and implementation of policies to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Designing and executing audits of internal controls and procedures to verify compliant transactions.
- Assisting in external audits and responding to inquiries from U.S. government agencies, such as Customs and the Departments of State and Commerce, through data collection and corrective actions.
- Influencing product development through technical jurisdictional analysis to align with business strategies while ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as a subject matter expert with extensive knowledge in the field and project management.
- Overseeing large, complex projects of significant importance with minimal supervision.
- Communicating effectively within and outside the organization to advocate for changes in practices and processes.
- Implementing substantial improvements in systems, processes, or products.
- Providing insights into new products and processes while executing operational plans that positively impact business outcomes.

- Offering guidance, coaching, and training to colleagues in areas of expertise.
- Managing strategic project initiatives involving cross-functional teams.
- Engaging with customers and vendors to facilitate communication.
- Influencing acceptance of team perspectives and practices.
- Reporting to leadership on significant matters affecting the functional area.
- Driving improvements in processes and systems to enhance job performance.
Qualifications and Educational Background
- Eligibility for obtaining a Secret Security Clearance is required.
- A comprehensive understanding of the job area typically gained through advanced education and relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of project management is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s degree along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required.
- Familiarity with U.S. import, export, and licensing regulations, including EAR and ITAR, is essential.
- Experience with DECCS, SNAP-R, and ACE systems is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an active Security Clearance.
- Experience with FMS Trade Regulations.
- Knowledge of Consent Agreements.
- Familiarity with OCR EASE.
- Understanding of Trade Tariffs and Commodity Classifications.
