Solar Installation Crew Leader

The Solar Project Foreman plays a crucial role in overseeing the lead solar installers and managing multiple installation teams. This position involves hands-on work in the field with each crew on a regular basis. As the primary liaison for lead installers, the individual must possess comprehensive knowledge of all facets of solar system installation, including safety protocols, roof and ground mount setups, and system commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct up to four installation teams within the organization
  • Collaborate with the construction manager regarding staff evaluations, remuneration, and disciplinary actions for the respective teams
  • Educate new installers on installation techniques and safety regulations
  • Conduct pre-installation assessments to identify and address potential challenges
  • Work in various environments including roofs, ladders, crawlspaces, and attics of residential and commercial properties
  • Implement quality assurance measures with each installation team
  • Engage with clients professionally and courteously
  • Ensure accurate data entry into the CRM system
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of solar PV systems for both roof and ground mounts
  • Understand NEC standards for solar installation and system design
  • Skilled in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting solar systems and components
  • Ability to interpret schematics and adhere to technical installation guidelines
  • Stay informed about code regulations and installation practices
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Enforce all safety protocols as mandated by the company and OSHA

Certifications Provided by Employer

  • 18-Hour Solar PV Boot Camp through HeatSpring
  • OSHA 10 Safety Training
  • 40-Hour NABCEP Course Certification
  • Pursue NABCEP Certification

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of photovoltaic equipment and installation processes
  • Comfortable with climbing ladders and working at heights
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Responsible for maintaining company tools
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • High attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Previous management or leadership experience is preferred
  • Experience in roofing and general carpentry is advantageous
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in solar installation or the solar industry
  • A minimum of 1 year in a lead installer role
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working on roofs with a pitch of up to 45 degrees
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required

Required Tools and Equipment

  • Personal hand tools including a screwdriver set or multi-tool, wire strippers, diagonal wire cutters, and an impact-rated socket set
  • Appropriate weather attire, including at least one piece of company-branded apparel while on duty
  • Job-appropriate footwear

  • Safety harness and rope with a rope grab and shock absorber
  • Fall protection anchors and devices
  • Power tools such as impact drills and saws
  • iPad and/or MacBook Air for project management
