Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The Clinical Exercise Specialist is responsible for assessing and developing tailored exercise regimens for patients diagnosed with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiac, or pulmonary diseases, as directed by healthcare providers. The role involves ensuring that exercise programs are clinically sound and beneficial for the patient's rehabilitation and overall health maintenance.

In addition, the incumbent will contribute to the formulation of exercise program guidelines and maintain professional development through ongoing education and participation in relevant seminars.

Core Duties:

  • Collaborates with nursing staff to conduct comprehensive health assessments, focusing on cardiovascular health and metabolic function.
  • Creates individualized exercise plans aimed at promoting health, mitigating disease risk, or facilitating recovery from cardiac-related illnesses or surgical procedures.
  • Administers Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise therapy in alignment with established guidelines from recognized health organizations.
  • Records patient progress and outcomes in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Facilitates educational sessions for patients, families, and community groups as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in exercise science or a related field is required, along with relevant experience demonstrating the necessary skills and knowledge, preferably within a cardiac rehabilitation setting.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must obtain certification from the American College of Sports Medicine as a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) or Certified Exercise Specialist (CES) within one year of employment.
  • Preferred credentialing as a Medical Assistant-Registered.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • ACSM certification is advantageous.
