Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Senior Accounting Manager. This role necessitates a robust understanding of accounting principles and practices. Responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy of prepaid expenses, fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, expense accruals, intercompany transactions, and allocations.

Key Responsibilities

Prepaid Expenses:

  • Accurate recording of prepaid transactions, including additions and amortization across various entities and currencies.
  • Engage in automation initiatives by establishing prepaid schedules and executing monthly amortization.
  • Regularly monitor and reconcile the prepaid module with the general ledger.

Lease Accounting:

  • Accurate documentation of lease journal entries.
  • Assist in the setup of new leases and validate lease data and attributes.
  • Maintain comprehensive lease schedules.
  • Oversee monthly rent billing to ensure correct general ledger coding.
  • Review annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) billing.
  • Calculate asset retirement obligations for applicable fixed assets.

Expense Accruals:

  • Accurate recording of expense accruals using open purchase order reports, accrual trackers, and vendor input.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to assess the completeness and reasonableness of accrual amounts.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of accruals at period-end through careful analysis of balances, trends, and input from FP&A and business owners.

Intercompany Transactions and Allocations:

  • Accurate recording of operating expenses to affiliates by project code.
  • Allocate facility expenses to affiliates appropriately.
  • Review the accuracy of cross charges.
  • Prepare intercompany invoices for settlements.
  • Conduct reconciliations and review offsetting balances, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of intercompany processes, enhancements, and policies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile all assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare flux analysis and provide explanations for variances in assigned accounts.
  • Compile management review packages.
  • Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and schedules.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedure documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies and Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Experience with foreign currencies is highly desirable.
  • Strong work ethic, sound judgment, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP accounting principles relevant to the responsibilities outlined.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on results and process improvement.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience in the biotech sector is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting.

Experience:

  • 5-7+ years of accounting experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • CPA preferred.
