Key Responsibilities:
Conduct high-level analysis and design of software applications and systems. Develop, assess, design, modify, and validate programs and systems. Architect and prototype innovative solutions.

Primary Duties:
  • Provide technical guidance to the organization in your area of specialization.
  • Serve as the technical lead and architect for significant OCLC systems or concepts.
  • Communicate effectively with relevant business units regarding trends and information in your area of expertise.
  • Prototype systems in anticipation of evolving requirements.
  • Develop functional specifications based on prototype systems.
  • Analyze and resolve issues in existing systems.
  • Design, code, and test multiple system modules promptly.
  • Utilize industry-standard programming methodologies to translate requirements and designs into functional code.
  • Evaluate and recommend substantial changes to development practices, continuously seeking enhancements in areas such as:
    • Emerging programming languages and operating systems,
    • Relevant ISO and NISO standards applicable to OCLC projects,
    • Improvements in system performance and architecture, and
    • Interpretation of OCLC's ISO-9000 procedures and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as they relate to your work unit.
  • Ensure project teams engage in load, capacity, and performance analysis and/or testing.
  • Represent OCLC by participating in or leading relevant standards committees such as ISO, NISO, ACM, and IEEE, and spearhead the implementation of standards within OCLC systems.
  • Identify new opportunities with third-party solutions and techniques for OCLC applications, analyzing their impact and associated risks.
  • Participate in major architectural evaluations and planning.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree required with 8 to 12 years of experience at a high technical level. (Equivalent experience without a Master's degree is 10 to 14 years at a high technical level.)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership across the organization in your area of expertise.
  • Possess specific industry knowledge in areas such as application modernization, user interfaces, performance, or a significant OCLC system.
  • Ability to implement industry-standard programming practices by mastering advanced software development concepts, methodologies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in analyzing and resolving issues in existing systems.
Desired Qualifications:

PhD in Computer Science or a related field.

Working Environment: Standard office setting.
