Position Overview

The University of Southern Indiana invites applications for the role of Academic Advisor within the Romain College of Business. This position is essential in guiding students through their academic journey, ensuring they meet their educational goals and navigate the complexities of their programs.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Act as a primary liaison between the Romain College of Business and its student body, as well as other academic departments and the Registrar's Office.

2. Serve as the first point of contact for students seeking information about College programs.

3. Analyze student placement scores and academic records to provide informed advice on course enrollment, assess the need for enrollment exceptions, and communicate any missing prerequisites or graduation requirements.

4. Make informed decisions regarding changes to students' class schedules and appropriate course placements.

5. Maintain accurate student records, monitor academic progress, and facilitate necessary referrals for additional support.

6. Provide guidance during key advising periods, New Student Orientation, and throughout the academic semester as required.

7. Collaborate in the creation and execution of a Diversity Plan aimed at enhancing recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority groups.

8. Partner with various University units to address the advising needs of special populations, including adult learners, student athletes, veterans, and students with disabilities.

9. Compile and analyze data for the College's advising assessment program as directed by the Advising Center Director.

10. Assist in the development of training programs for faculty and staff involved in advising within the College.

11. Participate in recruitment activities such as Transfer Visit Days and Open Houses.

12. Stay informed about University and Romain College of Business policies, procedures, and curriculum updates.

13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree.

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.

- Capability to engage effectively with a diverse student and faculty population.

- Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and email.

- Creativity and resourcefulness in developing outreach strategies for current and prospective students.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master's degree.

- One year of experience in academic advising or a related field at the collegiate level.

- Experience working with diverse student populations, including those receiving federal and state aid and those at academic risk.

- Familiarity with NACADA Core Values, CAS professional standards, and federal guidelines affecting students and faculty.

Work Hours:

- Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

- Occasional irregular hours may be required.

- Some travel may be necessary for professional development activities.
