Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Sustainability Coordinator to join our Office for Sustainability team. This role is pivotal in promoting outreach and engagement initiatives that align with our mission in education, research, and public service, with a strong emphasis on waste reduction, material diversion, and educational outreach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Management of Major Waste Initiatives:
    Oversee logistics for volunteer events focused on sustainability, including sports events and community engagement activities. Facilitate the student-led composting program and coordinate donation drives to support waste reduction efforts.
  • Support for Student Teams:
    Provide guidance and support to student teams involved in waste minimization and volunteer recruitment, ensuring effective operations and engagement.
  • General Waste Program Support:
    Raise awareness through various outreach methods, including presentations, events, and collaborations with student organizations. Promote existing resources aimed at minimizing waste and assist in the execution of zero waste events.
  • Administrative Support:
    Assist with purchasing and expense reporting for the Office for Sustainability. Provide general administrative support, including scheduling and organizing materials for team activities.

Qualifications:
  • A strong interest in waste reduction and sustainability practices.
  • Experience in outreach, communication, or educational roles related to sustainability.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in coordinating student groups and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to manage event logistics effectively.
  • Background in higher education or similar educational environments.

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience, with two or more years preferred.
  • Consideration may be given to a combination of education and experience totaling five years.

Compensation:
The anticipated hiring range is $24.04 per hour, equating to an annual salary between $45,000 and $50,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week non-exempt position with benefits.
