The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a proactive individual to enhance various sustainability efforts. With a commitment to environmental stewardship, our laboratories are pivotal in achieving sustainability objectives.

The Sustainability Engagement Coordinator for Research Labs will play a vital role in the Commonwealth of Virginia's sustainability initiatives. This position entails collaborating with faculty, staff, and students engaged in research through statewide programs and sustainability projects. The Coordinator will maintain and improve existing initiatives, oversee program communications, resource events, and other sustainability efforts aimed at reducing energy, water, and waste in research facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promoting established programs such as the Green Labs Certification and the International Laboratory Freezer Challenge.
  • Assisting lab personnel by advocating for safety and sustainability best practices.
  • Leading the Green Labs Working Group.
  • Creating new Green Labs initiatives, tools, and resources to increase awareness and encourage sustainable practices.
  • Developing metrics for success, tracking performance, and gathering feedback.
  • Organizing events such as the Green Labs Resource Fair.
  • Updating the Green Labs website and managing social media content.
  • Collaborating with the research community and other sustainability programs.
  • Conducting site assessments in research labs.
  • Producing and disseminating informative materials for the research community.
  • Supporting outreach initiatives for the Smart Labs program.
  • Participating in sustainability committees or working groups.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in a related area.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven experience with research and sustainability challenges.
  • Strong writing and communication abilities.
  • Capacity to gather, analyze, and interpret data for reporting purposes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and solution-focused approach.
Anticipated Salary Range: $55,000-$57,000 annually. Full-time position with comprehensive benefits.
