POSITION OVERVIEW
The Credit Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting various lending divisions including Commercial, C&I, SBA, Real Estate Lending, and Consumer and Commercial Equipment Leasing by conducting thorough credit evaluations and analyses of loan applications, along with the preparation of comprehensive loan documentation.
This role involves performing credit assessments by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting diverse credit data on both current and potential clients and their portfolios. The Credit Officer is tasked with making informed recommendations or decisions regarding credit extensions, as well as investigating and scrutinizing credit histories. Additionally, monitoring customer accounts and loan portfolios is essential to enhance credit quality while mitigating risks and potential losses.
The Credit Officer is responsible for preparing and presenting credit files to committees, facilitating informed lending decisions for new, renewal, and extension loans. This position also entails maintaining oversight of account credit standings and providing relevant information for credit inquiries as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation of credit presentations, including financial statement analyses, covenant evaluations, collateral assessments, obligor ratings, cash flow examinations, and underwriting processes.
- Conduct property evaluations, sponsorship assessments, and global cash flow analyses using company-approved software for each loan and guarantor.
- Engage in site visits, meetings, and discussions with borrowers to gather pertinent information.
- Draft approval memorandums summarizing findings and validate Credit Risk Ratings in accordance with company policies.
- Monitor delinquencies and ensure compliance with covenants.
- Provide support to Senior Credit Officers and Credit Managers in analyzing complex credit information in collaboration with account officers.
- Make informed recommendations for credit approvals or denials.
- Coordinate with processing and funding teams to ensure accurate documentation flow for efficient loan closures.
- Participate in loan committee meetings by preparing and presenting new credit proposals.
- Track the completion of credit packages and manage re-documentation requests for loans with changes in name, organization, or address.
- Assist in the preparation of loan approval documents, including account details and balances.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by engaging with clients both in-person and over the phone.
- Exhibit proficiency in analyzing business and individual tax returns and financial statements to identify cash flow sources.
- Conduct preliminary analyses on the company and its guarantors, identifying loan purposes, repayment sources, and associated risks.
- Perform detailed analyses of debt service coverage ratios for guarantor underwriting.
- Research and analyze credit reports on companies and individuals, focusing on specific industries.
- Review formation documents for borrowers, ensuring accuracy and appropriate signing authority.
- Examine loan documentation for consistency with approved credit narratives and compliance with bank guidelines.
- Monitor existing credit facilities for compliance with financial and reporting covenants, maintaining an updated compliance log.
- Demonstrate respect and integrity in all interactions, upholding organizational values and fostering a diverse work environment.
- Adhere to all safety standards and report any unsafe conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are specific to the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial or SBA lending, particularly in property cash flow analysis and appraisal methods.
- Experience in commercial or SBA analysis and underwriting is advantageous.
- Strong skills in commercial business analysis, particularly in relation to CRE analysis.
- Experience in financial analysis of business or CRE investment financial statements and tax returns.
- Ability to present clear and concise written credit memorandums to management and loan committees.
- Intermediate knowledge of lending activities and terminology.
- Capability to make independent recommendations based on thorough analysis.
- Proficiency in managing multiple transactions in a collaborative environment.
- Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
- Intermediate computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to instruct and train others.
- Aptitude for addressing complex problems with multiple variables.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A valid driver's license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage, if required for job duties.
