POSITION SUMMARY

The main responsibilities include supporting the educational and social growth of students under the supervision and direction of the principal and classroom educator.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Assistance

  • Support the execution of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students and track their advancement.
  • Work with individual learners or small groups to reinforce understanding of the material or skills introduced by the educator.
  • Assist the educator in developing strategies to reinforce concepts or skills based on a comprehensive understanding of each student's needs, interests, and abilities.

Educator Support

  • Help prepare instructional materials.
  • Grade completed assignments, maintain attendance records, and assist with classroom projects.
  • Supervise and assist students in various settings.
  • Support and implement the classroom behavior management strategy.

Behavioral Support

  • Establish and maintain a positive and effective rapport with all students.
  • Assist students with emotional or behavioral challenges and help them develop appropriate social skills.
  • Collaborate with the educator in employing various behavior management techniques.
  • Support the C.H.O.I.C.E.S Curriculum and apply the Five Step Problem Solving Model when addressing student behaviors and needs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned duties related to student transportation by monitoring behaviors and consistently applying transportation policies and procedures.
  • Participate in classroom team meetings.
  • Attend and engage in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist in food service as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A paraprofessional license is required, or the willingness to obtain the license post-hire.
  2. A genuine desire to assist students with special needs in an educational setting.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively and courteously with all school personnel and students.
  4. Capacity to perform under pressure.
  5. Ability to build effective relationships with the student population.
  6. Strong organizational skills, time management, and adaptability to meet the needs of staff and students.
  7. A willingness to undertake any responsibilities pertinent to the role.
  8. Support the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the organization.
