ROLE SUMMARY
The primary duties involve supporting the educational and social growth of students under the supervision and direction of the principal and classroom instructor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Assistance
- Facilitate the execution of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students and track their advancement.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce the learning of concepts or skills initially introduced by the instructor.
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop strategies for reinforcing concepts or skills based on an understanding of each student's needs, interests, and abilities.
Instructor Support
- Assist in the preparation of teaching materials.
- Evaluate completed assignments, maintain attendance records, and support classroom projects.
- Guide, supervise, and assist students in various settings.
- Support and enforce the classroom behavior management strategy.
Behavioral Support
- Establish and maintain a positive and effective rapport with all students.
- Assist students with emotional or behavioral challenges and help them develop appropriate social skills.
- Work alongside the teacher using various behavior management techniques.
- Support the C.H.O.I.C.E.S Curriculum and apply the Five Step Problem Solving Model when addressing student behaviors, concerns, and needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Fulfill assigned bus duty by monitoring student behaviors and consistently applying transportation policies and procedures.
- Participate in classroom team meetings.
- Engage in all staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Assist in food service as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A paraprofessional license is required, or a willingness to obtain the license post-hire.
- A genuine desire to assist students with special needs in an educational setting.
- The ability to collaborate and interact positively with all school personnel and students.
- Capability to work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to build strong relationships with the student population.
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and adaptability to meet the needs of staff and students.
- A willingness to take on responsibilities appropriate for the role.
