Position Overview:


The Engineering Project Manager role within Trane Commercial Systems entails overseeing the engineering of new product development initiatives specifically for the Arctic Packaged and Modular Chiller product lines.

This position will guide interdisciplinary teams across various functions to develop cutting-edge, market-leading chiller systems.

The role includes direct supervisory responsibilities for a small group of Mechanical Systems Engineers.

Success in this position relies on effective collaboration with a global network of engineers, designers, product managers, and operations specialists.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Product Engineering, Product Management, Operations, and Service to launch innovative chiller products into the market.
  • Direct and coordinate the efforts of engineering and technician teams to achieve performance, reliability, and quality objectives.
  • Exhibit responsiveness to both internal and external customers while maintaining a quality-focused approach in all tasks.
  • Utilize interdisciplinary engineering knowledge to address system design and product application challenges.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering team members, fostering a culture of personal and professional growth.
  • Manage team assignments to align with product development strategies.
  • Leverage a diverse range of technical inputs to analyze test data, review refrigeration cycles, perform heat transfer calculations, and compile reports.
  • Meet project schedule, cost, and quality targets as outlined in the project plan.
  • Effectively implement change management processes to ensure customer satisfaction and manage scope and risk.
  • Prepare and present technical progress reports to the leadership team.
  • Occasional overnight travel (less than 10%).

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with HVAC/R systems is advantageous.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is preferred.

Core Competencies:

  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and strong project management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of product development processes.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with key hardware components in refrigeration systems, including coils, fans, compressors, motors, and controls.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, with the ability to influence and gain acceptance from cross-functional team members without direct authority.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to evolving environments.
  • Understanding of HVAC system operations, including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation.
  • Self-motivated with high energy and dedication to career advancement.
  • Adept at quickly synthesizing and organizing information necessary for engineering decision-making.
  • Experience in Data & Analytics, with the ability to make data-driven decisions; programming knowledge is a plus.
  • Capable of taking a leadership role in a global, cross-functional design engineering team, requiring collaboration with design, engineering, manufacturing, and operations personnel.
Base Compensation Range is $110,000 - $130,000.
