Job Overview

Cooper Marine is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Mate. This position is crucial for the efficient operation of our vessels, where you will take on a leadership role within the crew.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Mate, your primary duties will include:

  1. Overseeing and coordinating the activities of the crew on board the vessel.
  2. Conducting inspections of towing equipment and lifesaving gear, and guiding the crew in the repair or replacement of any defective items.
  3. Directing the crew in the rigging of towlines to barges or ships that require towing.
  4. Maintaining accountability for the welfare and discipline of deckhands and their assigned equipment.
  5. Assisting in the training and integration of newly assigned deckhands, providing performance feedback to the Wheelhouse Manager.
  6. Ensuring the timely submission and thorough review of all necessary reports and documentation as required by management.
  7. Collaborating effectively with customers and contracted personnel to achieve operational goals.
  8. Executing additional tasks as directed by the Wheelhouse Manager.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a TWIC Card.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
