We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Plastic Lab Technician to join our team at Branch 47. As a Plastic Lab Technician, you will be responsible for conducting tests on plastic materials to ensure they meet specified standards and performance criteria.
Key Responsibilities- Material Testing: Perform mechanical, thermal, chemical, and physical tests on plastic materials, including tensile testing, impact testing, hardness testing, FTIR, thermal analysis, chemical resistance testing, injection molding of samples, melt index testing, and density testing.
- Equipment Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate testing equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ASTM Standards. Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare samples of plastic materials for testing, including cutting, molding, or otherwise processing materials to required specifications.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately record test data, analyze results, and compare them to required standards or specifications. Identify any deviations and work with the team to determine causes. Utilize related computer programs to gather and visualize the data.
- Test Documentation: Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, results, and observations. Generate reports summarizing test results and present findings to engineering teams or management.
- Quality Assurance: Assist in the development and refinement of testing protocols to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of test results.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while handling materials, chemicals, and testing equipment. Ensure the testing environment is kept clean and safe.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with material testing techniques and equipment, such as tensile testers, impact testers, and thermal analyzers. Proficiency in data analysis and report generation.
- Education: Associate degree or vocational certification in materials science, chemistry, engineering, or a related field. Experience in a laboratory environment is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Extremely diligent focus on accuracy and precision in testing and data recording.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot testing issues and work independently to resolve problems.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills for reporting and collaboration with team members.
- Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement improvements to testing processes, equipment, and methods to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of testing operations.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, scientists, and other technicians to support product development, quality control, and research activities.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to handle and manipulate testing materials and equipment. Some lifting and manual dexterity may be required.
- Working Conditions: Ability to conduct oneself in a laboratory or manufacturing environment, which may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the materials and testing processes involved.
