Job Summary

1 Priority Environmental Services is seeking a skilled Asbestos Removal Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in safely identifying, removing, and disposing of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and radioactive materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Remove asbestos from ceilings, walls, beams, boilers, and other structures, following hazardous waste handling guidelines and safe demolition techniques.
  • Assemble scaffolding and seal off work areas, using plastic sheeting and duct tape.
  • Position mobile decontamination units and portable showers at entrance points.
  • Build connecting walkways between mobile units and work areas, using hand tools, lumber, nails, plastic sheeting, and duct tape.
  • Position portable air evacuation and filtration systems inside work areas.
  • Spray chemical solutions over asbestos-covered surfaces to soften asbestos.
  • Cut and scrape asbestos from surfaces, using knives and scrapers.
  • Shovel asbestos into plastic disposal bags and seal bags, using duct tape.
  • Clean work areas of loose asbestos, using vacuums, brooms, and dustpans.
  • Place asbestos in disposal bags and seal bags, using duct tape.
  • Dismantle scaffolding and temporary walkways, using hand tools, and place plastic sheeting and disposal bags into transport bags.
  • Seal bags, using duct tape, and load bags into trucks or dumpsters.
  • Follow directions from foremen, supervisors, and managers.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in extreme hot/cold, wet/dry environments.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions, such as scraping, sanding, and shoveling.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have unrestricted clearance to wear a respirator up to 10 hours a day with few breaks.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • OSHA 10 or higher certification.
