Position Overview

The Laboratory Support Specialist in Pathology plays a crucial role in providing vital administrative assistance within the laboratory environment, focusing on the management and processing of specimens, slides, and related documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address specific requests pertaining to Histology, Cytology, and Immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Allocate and manage cases assigned to Pathologists based on the established distribution list.
  • Prepare slides through processes such as staining, cover slipping, and assembly, ensuring readiness for distribution.
  • Conduct quality control (QC) assessments to verify that all slides correspond accurately with their respective tissue blocks prior to release.
  • Package slides for external dispatch, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and included.
  • Receive, archive, and systematically organize paperwork, blocks, and slides from clients.
  • File slides and associated paperwork, ensuring all cases are thoroughly completed before filing.
  • Organize and maintain tissue blocks as required.
  • Unpack laboratory supplies and oversee inventory management as necessary.
  • Assist in the maintenance and operation of stainers and processors as needed.
  • Resolve inquiries from clients and pathologists via phone, providing troubleshooting support.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as directed by laboratory supervisors, leads, and the Anatomic Pathology Manager.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong visual and auditory acuity.
  • Proficient in English, with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience with data entry and computer operations.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma is required; an Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is beneficial.
