Job Title: Building Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of buildings and dwellings in our community.

Job Summary:

The Building Inspector will be responsible for reviewing approved plans and inspecting construction of new and existing buildings and dwellings to ensure compliance with Metro Building Codes and other regulatory requirements. This includes conducting site visits, reviewing plans and specifications, and meeting with contractors, architects, and engineers to discuss code regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections of new buildings and dwellings to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Review approved plans and specifications for compliance with regulatory codes
  • Meet with contractors, architects, and engineers to discuss code regulations and provide guidance
  • Inspect structures during construction to ensure that procedures and materials meet approved standards
  • Follow-up with re-inspections to verify compliance with regulations and approved plans
  • Take corrective actions against code violators and patrol for work being done without permits
  • Maintain accurate records and files for preparing daily inspection field reports
  • Attend various meetings and training sessions to stay current with technical publications
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of construction inspection or related experience
  • Valid Driver License
  • State of Tennessee Building Inspector's Certificate
  • Certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Certified Residential Building Inspector and Certified Commercial Building Inspector
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of codes, laws, and ordinances relating to the construction of various structures
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in construction
  • Knowledge of OSHA laws
  • Knowledge of the International Building Codes, International Residential and other applicable codes
  • Strong communication skills
