Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to four or more years of increasing responsibility or skilled full-time electrical work, which includes installation of equipment, infrastructures, and electrical systems.

Substitution of Education for Experience:

Additional qualifying coursework from an accredited college, university, technical institute or vocational school in electrical technology, mechanical technology, engineering or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.

Must be certified by: National Certification Program for Construction Codes Inspectors (NCPCCI), International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) or International Code Council (ICC) as a One and Two Family Electrical Inspector and an Electrical General Inspector, and licensed by the State of Tennessee. A valid motor vehicle license may be required for employment in some positions.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Responds to electrical inquiries, policy, procedure, and TCA (Tennessee Code Annotated) for electrical contractors, issuing agents, power supply companies, homeowners, builders and those in the business community.

Schedules electrical inspections in the CORE licensing system to ensure that timelines established by law and regulation are met.

Interprets or explains rejection notices to customers.

Coaches electrical contractors and homeowners on CORE licensing system and how it operates.

Coaches electrical contractors and DEIs on conducting inspections as well as the codes, rules and regulations involving electrical inspections.

Consults with state authorities to determine whether or not job falls under the authority of State Fire Marshal's Office.

Responds to inquiries regarding product approval by contacting a nationally recognized testing laboratory.

Attends contractors and semiannual meetings of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and/or International Code Council.

Attends semiannual Deputy Electrical Inspector meeting.

Assist internal customers in the coordination of regional contractor meetings.

Moves objects and documents the status of electrical equipment.

Installs smoke alarms.

Conducts inspections and site visits in order to confirm compliance with statutory code.

Performs marina/floating cabins electrical safety inspections.

Interprets code citations to ensure code compliance.

Works within the CORE system to reassign inspections, reassign inspector ques, close out inspections, and customer coordination with results.

Remain compliant with all certification requirements.

Researches information regarding electrical components being utilized in all structures (commercial buildings, homes, marinas, etc.).

Conducts requested safety electrical inspections with tenants, owners, power distributions and other jurisdictions by identifying imminent safety hazards.

Verifies the calculation of the Electrical load to determine the size of the electrical service, feeders, HVAC (Heating, Venting, and Air Conditioning) equipment and branch circuits.

Ability to use related office equipment and software such as smartphone, tablet, printer/scanner, and laptop as required.

Ability to use related hand tools such as cordless drills and electrical testing equipment as required.

Must demonstrate ethical performance, approach ability, dealing with ambiguity, conflict management, patience, and a drive for results.

Must demonstrate an appropriate ability to set priorities.
