Job Summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating and screening patients to determine their therapeutic recreational needs, identifying strengths and deficits, and developing individualized treatment plans.

You will administer treatment interventions to meet each patient's specific needs, observe progress or changes in the patient's condition, and modify treatment plans accordingly. You will also document patients' evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plans, and recommendations.

In addition, you will educate patients and families on treatment goals and therapy plans, instruct patients and parents on therapeutic activities to follow while in the hospital or at home, document instruction, and evaluate ongoing compliance and understanding.

This is a contingent/prn/on-call opportunity, and you will be working at our Central Campus in Columbus, Ohio.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and screen patients to determine therapeutic recreational needs
  • Develop individualized treatment plans
  • Administer treatment interventions
  • Document patients' evaluation results and progress
  • Educate patients and families on treatment goals and therapy plans
  • Recommend and secure patient referrals to community agencies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited school
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • One year experience as a CTRS preferred or clinical affiliation in pediatrics

Physical Requirements:

  • OCCASIONALLY: Climb stairs/Ladders, Driving required, Lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs., Pushing/pulling up to 60 lbs., Exposed to fumes/gases/vapors, Exposed to biohazard waste, Working outdoors, Working in hot/cold temperatures
  • FREQUENTLY: Bend/twist, Squat/Kneel, Use of Computer skills, Lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., Pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs., Exposed to blood and/or bodily Fluids, Exposed to communicable diseases and/or pathogens, Exposed to chemicals and/or medications, Use of patient equipment
  • CONTINUOUSLY: Standing, Walking, Sitting, Flexing/extending of neck, Reaching above shoulder, Hand usage: grasping, gripping, turning, Repetitive hand/arm usage, Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs., Pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs.
