Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at CEENTA. As a key member of Dr. Berry's team, you will provide clinical and administrative support to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support to Dr. Berry and other providers, including obtaining and documenting patient information, reconciling medications and allergies, and performing preliminary ophthalmic work-ups.
  • Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures, including preparing and administering medications, collecting laboratory specimens, and explaining treatment procedures to patients.
  • Manage provider schedules, including scheduling appointments, surgeries, and in-office procedures, and maintaining workqueues in the EHR system.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, stocking rooms, and responding to patient messages and prescription refill requests.
  • Collaborate with the provider team to ensure seamless patient care and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Requirements
  • One to three years' experience as an ophthalmic assistant and a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an International Council of Accreditation (ICA) accredited clinical training program or completion of an International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) or American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) independent study course preferred.
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification from the IJCAHPO preferred.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
Work Environment

The Ophthalmic Assistant will function in a multi-specialty clinic with high patient volume. This role may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, and therefore, may be required to wear personal protective equipment at times.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit in front of a computer; type; perform repetitive mouse clicks; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms to assist patients and/or providers/staff
  • Occasionally assists with moving or positioning wheel-chair bound patients, clinical equipment, and office supplies up to 300 pounds

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with core hours of Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. From 7:15 am to 5:30 pm. Work hours may vary depending on business needs.

Travel

The OT's home office will be our University office. Travel to support Dr. Berry is required between our University, Concord, and Salisbury offices.
