Job Overview:

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is responsible for performing reception and administrative tasks within outpatient clinic environments. This role involves engaging with patients, families, physicians, and clinical teams to ensure a positive experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations and general office tasks, including handling a high volume of incoming calls and making outbound communications.
  • Schedule patient appointments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide patients with appointment details, including date, time, and location, while addressing any inquiries they may have.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of services offered at various locations.
  • Efficiently navigate multiple healthcare platforms to assist patients promptly.
  • Welcome patients and guests, confirming their identity and providing essential information regarding their visit.
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance details, and other necessary check-in procedures.
  • Collect co-payments and fees for services rendered.
  • Identify patients eligible for financial assistance programs and assist them with the application process.
  • Process payments and manage billing information, ensuring compliance with end-of-day procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace and waiting areas for patients.
  • Communicate any delays or changes in appointment status to patients.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to quality and patient safety.
  • Travel to various clinic locations as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Medical Billing or a Physician Office setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is essential.
  • Prior customer service experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Nextgen or Athena systems is a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Capability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance and billing processes.
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Commitment to a patient-centered approach in healthcare delivery.

Work Environment:

This position typically involves a 40-hour work week, with hours determined by departmental needs. Additional hours may be required based on operational demands.
