Job Summary

The Public Safety Supervisor is a critical role at San Diego Theatres, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our staff, guests, and venues. As a key member of our Public Safety team, you will be responsible for coordinating event safety plans, supervising staff, and maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate event safety plans and conduct briefings for internal and external staff
  • Supervise staff and adjust deployment as needed to ensure optimal safety and security
  • Assist the Public Safety Manager in advancing events and ensuring a seamless guest experience
  • Maintain a positive attitude and open mind, fostering a culture of cooperation, engagement, and respect
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of San Diego Theatres' mission, vision, and values, and effectively communicate their application to Public Safety staff
  • Supervise part-time staff, including coaching and counseling team members
  • Assist in the management of equipment and processes, such as Lost and Found, Fire Extinguishers, and AED
  • Actively research ways to prevent unsafe situations from occurring or reoccurring, and conduct visual inspections during patrols of both facilities
  • Create schedules for all Public Safety personnel and ensure shifts are staffed appropriately
  • Secure replacements and/or provide temporary coverage as needed for absences, breaks, and/or changes in staffing needs
  • Provide written incident reports to the Public Safety Manager relative to client, employee, and guest injuries or illnesses
  • Ensure staff maintain proper care of uniforms, equipment, and supplies
  • Supervise Contract Security and EMT to ensure the highest level of service to SDT guests and employees
  • Coordinate with other Operations Department Managers to address guest complaints and resolve issues
  • Assist in carrying out policies, procedures, and guidelines, and promptly advise Public Safety management team of conflicts or inappropriate actions
Requirements
  • Ability to de-escalate incidents diplomatically and tactfully, and resolve difficult and sensitive situations
  • Interpersonal skills to foster a welcoming, effective, and efficient environment for clients, guests, contractors, and employees
  • Exceptional ethics, honesty, and integrity, as well as complete respect for confidentiality and the appropriateness of communication
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of San Diego Theatres
  • Availability to work day, evening, and/or shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma
  • Three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous Safety and Security experience in a public assembly facility is desirable
  • Minimum of 1 – 3 years of previous supervisory experience required
Language Skills
  • Ability to communicate concisely
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patrons or employees of San Diego Theatres
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as fire safety rules, tickets, and procedure manuals
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • AED, CPR, and First Aid Training
  • BSIS guard card a plus
