ResponsibilitiesFor over six decades, Arcfield has provided critical support to Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) through extensive research, development, analysis, modeling, and testing to evaluate weapon system performance in various environments. The physicist will engage in scientific analysis and computational modeling to assess radiation environments and their implications on strategic weapon systems and personnel safety.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Contributing to comprehensive studies of radiation environments affecting reentry systems.
- Conducting radiation transport calculations for free-field and internal dose assessments.
- Performing intrinsic radiation evaluations to ensure personnel safety.
- Comparing radiation modeling results with experimental data for validation.
- Executing Verification & Validation processes for simulation models.
- Assisting in planning and conducting tests at various facilities.
- Collaborating with software engineers to integrate physics-based models into software applications.
- Supporting system planning and requirement definitions for current and future Navy weapon systems.
- Preparing technical documentation and presentations.
- Developing detailed reports outlining assumptions, inputs, outputs, and results.
- Engaging directly with customers and stakeholders.
- Traveling as necessary for meetings and interactions.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a BS Degree in Physics or Nuclear Engineering with 5-7 years of relevant experience; MS with 3-5 years; or PhD with 0-2 years.
- Proficiency in experimental design and modeling.
- Experience in drafting technical reports and presenting findings.
- Ability to communicate results effectively to technical experts and government representatives.
- Must possess and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
- A PhD in Physics or Nuclear Engineering.
- Experience with radiation transport (neutron, gamma, x-ray).
- Capability to develop unique code interfaces and post-processing routines.
- Leadership experience in guiding skilled engineers and scientists.
- Familiarity with verification and validation practices and statistical analysis of data.
- Proficiency in computational tools such as MCNP, Atilla, Matlab, or Python.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage complex tasks.
- Comfortable working independently or collaboratively.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design principles.
- Experience with strategic weapon systems.
