Key Responsibilities:
For over 65 years, Arcfield has been a trusted partner to the Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), providing research, development, analysis, modeling, simulation, and testing to evaluate weapon system performance in various environments. The physicist will engage in scientific analysis and computational modeling to assess radiation environments and their impact on strategic weapon systems (SWS) and personnel safety.

The role encompasses a variety of tasks, including:

  • Conducting studies on normal, hostile, and fratricide environments affecting reentry systems.
  • Performing radiation transport calculations for free-field and internal dose levels in Navy systems.
  • Executing intrinsic radiation assessments for personnel safety.
  • Correlating radiation modeling outcomes with experimental data.
  • Validating simulation models and results.
  • Assisting in test planning and execution at radiation, electrical, and mechanical testing facilities.
  • Collaborating with software engineers to integrate physics-based analysis models into maintainable software.
  • Supporting system planning, requirement definition, assessment, and qualification of current and future Navy weapon systems.
  • Creating technical documentation and presentations.
  • Interfacing directly with customers and traveling as necessary for meetings.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or Nuclear Engineering with 5-7 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 3-5 years; or a PhD with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Experience in experimental design, execution, and modeling.
  • Proficiency in writing technical reports and presenting findings to technical experts and government representatives.
  • Possession of a Top Secret Clearance.

Desired:

  • PhD in Physics or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience with radiation transport (neutron, gamma, x-ray).
  • Ability to develop unique code interfaces and post-processing routines for model response analysis.
  • Leadership skills to guide a team of skilled engineers and scientists.
  • Familiarity with verification and validation practices, model uncertainty quantification, and statistical analysis of experimental data.
  • Experience with computational tools such as MCNP, Atilla, Matlab, or Python.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated initiative and task management capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design and strategic weapon systems.
