Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Duke Health. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a critical role in coordinating and participating in various technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Assume care for the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages during an examination, initiating life support measures as necessary.
    • Start IVs for nuclear procedures.
    • Inject doses for rest and stress procedures.
    • Perform cardiac SPECT imaging of patients.
    • Prepare patients for EKG procedures.
  • Instrument Quality Control
    • Maintain inventory of supplies in assigned areas, prepare and maintain records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing, and disposal activities.
    • Perform daily ambient exposure surveys.
    • Calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients.
    • Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction.
    • Calculate data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay.
    • Process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
    • Evaluate recorded images for technical quality.
    • Work with health physicists to ensure all hot lab equipment is functioning properly.
    • Monitor the Nuclear Medicine Department with portable survey meters for possible contamination.
    • Assist in the development and evaluation of new procedures and techniques to meet the needs of specific protocols.
  • Clerical
    • Maintain reports for the North Carolina Radiation Protection Commission, Joint Commission, and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
    • Maintain radiation badges and reports.
    • Review procedure manuals annually.
    • Build patient procedure reports in Epic.
    • Work with health physicists to renew Radiation Licenses with the state of North Carolina.
    • Update patient procedure reports for Epic annually.
  • Safety/Education
    • Maintain continuing education hours for certification.
    • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines.
    • Train PRN Nuclear Technologists to cover the department.
    • Maintain Duke required online safety classes.
    Requirements
    • Requires successful completion of an AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine Technology training program.
    • ARRT (N) certification and/or NMTCB certification within 12 months of employment.
    • BLS certification.
