Position: Financial Controller


Company Overview:
Our client, a dynamic and expanding private equity firm specializing in real estate, is seeking a Financial Controller with a robust background in asset management and a proactive entrepreneurial mindset.


Location:
San Francisco, CA. Hybrid work model available.

Job Overview:
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of financial management and accounting practices within the commercial real estate sector, particularly in fund accounting and fair value financial reporting. The role demands a self-starter who can swiftly take on the responsibilities associated with this position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Monthly Accounting: Oversee the preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements for the Funds' real estate assets, conduct budget versus actual variance analysis, and manage property cash flows.
  • Quarterly Reporting: Collaborate with the fund administrator to produce GAAP-compliant quarterly reports for investors, adhering to the guidelines specified in the partnership agreement, including expense allocations and waterfall calculations.
  • Performance Analysis: Generate and evaluate various performance metrics at both the Fund and property levels; present findings to the CFO and the Executive Team.
  • Financial Projections: Assist the CFO in developing financial forecasts, financial models, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Valuation Process: Participate in the quarterly valuation process, identifying accounting challenges, researching appropriate treatments, and consulting with audit firms as necessary.
  • Management Fees: Calculate management fees and oversee capital calls, distributions, and carry calculations for the Funds and associated co-investments.
  • Cash Management: Supervise cash management and any credit facility loan draw requests, ensuring compliance with servicing requirements.
  • Audit and Tax Compliance: Lead the year-end audit process and tax compliance efforts, coordinating with fund administrators, auditors, and tax preparers.
  • SEC Compliance: Assist in the preparation of SEC compliance reports and other ad hoc filings.
  • Operational Interface: Engage with operating partners responsible for the daily management of properties and address LPs' audit and reporting inquiries.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience in fund accounting, with a preference for real estate finance expertise.
  • Strong foundation in GAAP accounting principles, particularly fair value accounting.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Office and QuickBooks, with a capacity to learn new accounting and reporting software swiftly.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational, prioritization, and analytical skills.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with small teams and external service providers.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work with integrity and sound judgment.

Compensation:
The compensation for this role will be determined based on various factors, including the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications. The estimated salary range for this position is $180K - $200K, with eligibility for discretionary bonuses.
