Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization. This pivotal role involves managing daily accounting functions and leading a team of five or more direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain internal controls and safeguards for revenue receipt, cost management, and program budgets.
3. Generate regular financial reports and statements, including cash flow analyses and budget versus actual reports.
4. Oversee the performance of invested assets in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
5. Manage all financial, project/program, and grants accounting to ensure alignment with budgets.
6. Coordinate audit activities and manage payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
7. Implement and oversee financial management software systems to enhance operational efficiency.
8. Lead the annual budgeting and planning process, reviewing all financial plans and budgets.
9. Monitor financial progress and keep senior leadership informed of the organization’s financial health.
10. Manage cash flow and forecasting, ensuring timely tax reporting.
Qualifications:
1. At least 3 years of accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
2. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
3. Proficiency in financial management software; experience with Abila MIP and Sage is advantageous.
4. Familiarity with A133 audits, indirect cost rate calculations, and grant management.
5. Extensive experience in payroll management, fixed assets, revenue reconciliation, and tax reporting.
6. Proven ability to analyze financial data and prepare comprehensive reports and projections.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience presenting financial data to senior management and boards.
8. Advanced knowledge of budgeting, cost estimation, and fiscal management principles.
9. A degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is required; CPA or related certification is a plus.
