Role Summary: We are seeking a Financial Controller to establish and lead our accounting department. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you will oversee all aspects of the company's accounting operations, including financial reporting, monthly and quarterly closings, tax compliance, treasury management, and the administration of key financial systems.

This position is ideal for a proactive and ambitious professional eager to develop an efficient and scalable accounting function that supports our company's rapid growth. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Finance, financial planning and analysis teams, and other executives to address accounting and reporting issues while contributing to our financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis (30%):
    • Lead the monthly financial closing process, focusing on enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
    • Prepare financial statements and reporting packages for leadership, the board, and stakeholders.
    • Work with internal and external partners to conduct variance analysis and provide insights for strategic decisions.
  • Financial Operations (40%):
    • Manage accounts payable, vendor relations, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
    • Develop and implement processes to enhance operational efficiency and improve the accuracy of financial data.
    • Oversee accounting aspects of multi-state operations, including intercompany transactions.
    • Enhance the finance and accounting technology stack to support growth.
  • Treasury, Tax, and Risk Management (15%):
    • Establish internal controls through documentation of accounting policies.
    • Manage treasury operations, including banking relationships and cash management.
    • Maintain reliable cash forecasts and oversee cash reporting.
    • Direct tax strategy and compliance.
  • Team Leadership and Development (15%):
    • Build and lead a high-performing accounting team.
    • Prepare for annual financial audits and oversee the audit process.
    • Set the accounting strategy aligned with company goals.
    • Collaborate with finance team members and leadership on critical business challenges.

Impact and Success Metrics:

First 90 Days:

  • Assess current accounting needs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Begin building the accounting team by recruiting and onboarding top talent.
  • Take ownership of the monthly financial close process, implementing improvements.
  • Oversee all financial reporting and prepare statements for internal and external reviews.
  • Transition the accounting function in-house and prepare for audits.

First Year Goals:

  • Fully develop the accounting team to meet company objectives.
  • Support ongoing expansion efforts, including new contracts and registrations.
  • Establish a robust accounting and finance technology infrastructure.
  • Enhance existing accounting processes for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement strong financial controls suitable for our growth.
  • Manage the audit process, serving as the primary liaison with auditors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in public accounting or finance roles within high-growth companies; healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Understanding of multi-entity consolidations and compliance complexities.
  • Aptitude for building and managing teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to enhance systems and processes for efficiency.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across functions.
