POSITION OVERVIEW

The role of the Certified Parent Support Specialist (CPSS) is to offer genuine and intentional assistance to parents or primary caregivers of children facing emotional, physical, behavioral, or mental health challenges. The CPSS is dedicated to focusing on the needs of the parent or caregiver.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide meaningful and purposeful support to parents and primary caregivers in their recovery journey.
  • Assist parents and caregivers in reaching their personal goals.
  • Implement targeted support activities that enhance the strengths and resilience of the parent or caregiver.
  • Collaborate with internal agency staff and community representatives to deliver comprehensive support to families in need.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  1. Demonstrated commitment to supporting parents or caregivers of children with emotional, physical, behavioral, or mental health challenges.
  2. Completion of required certifications and training from the Department of Mental Health.
  3. Ability to understand and uphold program standards.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Respectful and sensitive interaction with children and families.
  6. Capability to work effectively within the organization to meet consumer needs.
  7. Knowledge of cultural diversity and ability to engage with families facing multiple challenges.
  8. Proficient computer skills.

  • Introduce oneself to the parent or caregiver and clarify the role of the CPSS.

  • Exhibit active listening, empathetic responses, and validation of the parent's experiences.
  • Utilize person-first and strength-based language in all communications.

  • Support others in understanding the parent's perspective.
  • Actively advocate for the parent's interests and preferences.

  • Manage personal biases to maintain a supportive relationship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Implement all duties in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  2. Follow safety and health protocols while on duty.
  3. Meet productivity requirements.
  4. Maintain an appropriate caseload of families.
  5. Work collaboratively with paraprofessionals and professional staff.
  6. Establish supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  7. Ensure compliance with service provision standards.
  8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records.
  9. Attend team meetings and staffings as assigned.
  10. Ensure consumer safety and uphold their rights.
  11. Exhibit ethical behavior at all times.
  12. Address consumer concerns appropriately.
  13. Provide necessary data as required.
  14. Stay informed about organizational updates.
  15. Complete tasks independently and accurately.
  16. Support compliance with organizational standards and regulations.
  17. Maintain confidentiality of consumer information.
  18. Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies.
  19. Comply with health and safety standards.
  20. Document billable time and service reports promptly.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  2. Must be at least 21 years old.
  3. Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  4. Must be a parent or primary caregiver with lived experience related to child health challenges.
  5. Completion of all required training within specified timeframes.
  6. Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  7. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
