Civil Structural Engineer for Nuclear Projects

Position Overview:
A Talascend client is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer to contribute to Nuclear facility projects. This role involves engaging in various engineering tasks and collaborating with a team of professionals.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited institution is mandatory; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Experience ranging from 2 to 5 years in the field is essential.
  • Proficiency in conventional IBC / ASCE 7 structural design for buildings and structures addressing gravity, wind, and seismic loads is required.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering material design codes such as ACI 318, AISC 360, AISI 100, and TMS 402 is necessary.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software, including RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, and SAP2000, is expected.
  • Capability to develop drawings using CAD software like AutoCAD, Microstation, or Revit is required.
  • Experience with engineering calculation software such as MathCAD is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is necessary.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.
  • Experience with Department of Energy facility projects following DOE-STD-1020 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance programs such as ASME NQA-1 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of nuclear analysis and design codes, including ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 349, and AISC N690, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting mid-level engineering design on projects while receiving moderate supervision on complex issues and general oversight of all work aspects.
  • Applying established techniques and procedures to perform assigned tasks as part of broader assignments.
  • Collaborating effectively with other engineers and designers, both in-office and remotely, to support overall structural design needs.
  • Participating in project meetings and delivering presentations on specific engineering assignments.
  • Adhering to established schedules as outlined by a lead engineer.
  • Coordinating work with other disciplines as directed by the lead engineer.
  • Interpreting and reconciling engineering requirements for designs that integrate multiple systems and codes.
  • Generating technical reports, calculations, and similar documents that detail purpose, methodology, results, conclusions, and recommendations related to engineering challenges.
  • Critically reviewing the work of peers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assessing existing or new wall penetrations for structural integrity in compliance with ACI code requirements.
