Overview

The Wireless Connectivity Silicon team is seeking skilled wireless firmware test engineers to contribute to the assurance of quality for cutting-edge wireless silicon utilized in Apple's product lineup.

Responsibilities

- Partner with firmware, radio, MAC, and systems engineering teams to formulate a comprehensive firmware testing strategy that guarantees the stability, reliability, functional accuracy, and performance of Apple's wireless silicon firmware and associated products.
- Create testing infrastructure and implement continuous integration workflows for both pre-silicon development and post-silicon validation, including system integration and troubleshooting. This encompasses pre-check-in, nightly, weekly, and release regression testing.
- Engage in the development of test plans, establish manual and automated testing setups/scripts, generate test reports, and collect test logs while performing initial screenings of test failures and debugging efforts.
- Construct pre-silicon and post-silicon reference board testing configurations, in addition to production-specific testing setups.
- Formulate firmware test cases and methodologies.
- Innovate and design solutions that address automation and execution challenges.
- Assist in debugging and reproducing issues, collaborating with system QA on bug reproduction, log/statistics collection, and executing debug tests with debug firmware builds.
- Develop test result dashboards and participate in bug triage meetings.

Essential Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a silicon firmware test engineer.
  • Proficient in the development and execution of automated testing and continuous integration frameworks.
  • Expertise in firmware/software white box testing, including test plan design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance.
  • Skilled in scripting and debugging with languages such as Python, Perl, TCL, C++, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities: capable of investigating test failures, errors, and build issues, and effectively driving issues to resolution.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and work comfortably with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of embedded software fundamentals and low-level hardware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with wireless protocols, systems/MAC/PHY, and testing for WiFi/BT functionality, performance, or stability.
Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree combined with 10 years of relevant experience.

Compensation & Benefits
  • At Apple, base salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, which is determined within a range. This allows for growth as you advance in your role. The base salary range for this position is between $175,800 and $312,200, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Employees at Apple also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Eligible employees may receive discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
