Job Summary:
The Safety and Compliance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and the general public. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing safety programs and policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing training and guidance to employees on safety procedures and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety programs and policies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them
- Provide training and guidance to employees on safety procedures and protocols
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, and regulatory policies and standards
- Collaborate with management to identify gaps in compliance and implement solutions
- Facilitate accident and good catch reports for all incidents using our internal reporting system
- Hold managers accountable to ensure subcontractors and contract truck haulers comply with company and regulatory requirements
- Develop and conduct safety training content and lead training sessions
- Lead discussion in developing incident root cause analysis and facilitating implementation of solutions
- Actively participate in activities required to support the Corporate Safety strategic plan
Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in safety or a related field, preferred
- Years of experience in safety, construction, and/or manufacturing industries, OSHA, MSHA, IH, or similar
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills, ability to coach and teach all levels of employees
- Ability to take initiative and work through difficult situations independently, balancing member safety, compliance, and productivity
- Objective mindset to facilitate and investigate safety incidents with the cooperation of all stakeholders
- OSHA/MSHA certified instructor, a plus
- Computer literacy, Microsoft Suite
- Valid driver's license
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This role will require extensive travel to operations throughout New York state, primarily based on the needs of the business. The job will involve frequent walking, bending, or standing as necessary, as well as driving.
