About the Opportunity:

Copperhead Consulting, Inc. is enhancing our team and is actively in search of a Wildlife Biologist with a focus on chiropteran studies to join our group of expert consultants.

Ideal applicants should possess experience in mist-netting, radio-telemetry, and acoustic monitoring of North American bat species, along with skills in leading field teams, managing data, writing reports, and engaging with clients and regulatory agencies.

Preference will be given to those who hold a USFWS permit for bat surveys or have the qualifications to obtain one, can analyze acoustic data, or can assist with additional surveys such as wetland delineations, avian surveys, or botanical assessments.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct bat surveys utilizing mist-nets, harp traps, and acoustic detectors
• Supervise technical personnel and collaborate effectively in challenging environmental conditions
• Manage equipment transportation, setup, and disassembly
• Coordinate with field technicians to ensure availability of necessary PPE and field gear for projects
• Oversee equipment and vehicle maintenance, preparation, and decontamination
• Execute data collection and management using electronic methods
• Perform data analysis and conduct literature reviews
• Serve as a mentor to junior staff while also being open to mentorship
• Participate in various roles as part of a project team

Requirements:
• Candidates must possess and maintain a valid federal bat permit.
• Candidates are required to have current vaccinations, including rabies.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in biology or a closely related field of study
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in biological surveys and resource management
• Willingness to travel for extended periods throughout the year, primarily in summer, and work on weekends and some holidays (which can be compensated later)
• Ability to work long hours in adverse conditions with frequent schedule changes
• Capability to carry heavy equipment (over 50 lbs) over long distances (at least 1⁄2 mile)
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience in writing technical reports
• Ability to take initiative, resolve issues, and ensure tasks are completed effectively and safely
• Ability to work both as part of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks efficiently and safely
• Must hold a valid driver's license and be capable of operating a 4WD vehicle in off-road conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
• Candidates with experience in conducting avian surveys will receive priority consideration.
• Strong wildlife and plant identification skills and the ability to assist with various surveys, including but not limited to bats, birds, insects, fish, mussels, and plants.
• Experience with alternative energy surveys is advantageous.
