Operating Room Nurse Coordinator

to join our team in the Operating Room Department.

Position Overview:


The Operating Room at Sentara is a dynamic environment, handling a significant volume of surgical cases annually. Our facility is equipped with multiple operating suites and provides a range of surgical services, including complex gynecological, neurosurgical, vascular, thoracic, and orthopedic procedures.


Role Responsibilities:


As the Operating Room Nurse Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in guiding and mentoring the healthcare team while ensuring optimal patient outcomes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the procurement of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Providing education and support to nursing staff.
  • Participating in the recruitment process.
  • Ensuring daily preparation of specialty operating rooms.
  • Facilitating quarterly meetings with management to discuss project updates and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Monitoring expiration dates of supplies and supporting the training of new staff.
  • Collaborating with surgeons and managing equipment organization and maintenance.
  • Working closely with Central Sterile Services to assess instrument needs.
  • Submitting work orders for equipment issues and reviewing surgical schedules for potential conflicts.

Qualifications:


To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • A minimum of 18 months of nursing experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the state of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:


While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
