About the Opportunity

The University of Southern California (USC) is seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Trades Supervisor to join its Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) team. As a key member of the FPM team, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and activities of the fire safety shop, ensuring the effective installation, service, maintenance, and inspection of fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate staff to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Plan and schedule fire protection projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget and quality standards.
  • Manage the department budget, providing financial guidance and oversight to ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to staff, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards, including the California Building Code (CBC), California Fire Code (CFC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure effective fire protection systems and practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and effective communication.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with specialized/technical training in fire protection.
  • 6 years of experience in fire protection, with progressive leadership/management/supervision experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of fire protection craft/trade, including a thorough understanding of all aspects of this skilled trade.
  • Comprehensive understanding of city and state building codes, workplace safety, and structural integrity requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret fire protection blueprints, drawings, plans, specifications, and/or sketches.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
