Job Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing laboratory personnel, fostering positive interactions within the healthcare facility, overseeing workflow, assisting in performance evaluations, and developing operational budgets while exploring innovative clinical methodologies. This role requires significant expertise and sound judgment to fulfill its responsibilities, with a high degree of creativity and independence expected. The supervisor will lead and guide the efforts of the laboratory team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Facilitates the effective recruitment and training of laboratory staff, while assigning and supervising their tasks and schedules in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  2. Maintains accurate records of employee attendance for payroll purposes and tracks performance data for evaluations and counseling.
  3. Addresses employee conduct issues promptly and effectively, demonstrating strong coaching and mentoring abilities.
  4. Performs additional duties as required or requested.
  • Customer Service: Strategically coordinates and organizes tasks to prioritize duties while remaining adaptable to the needs of laboratory service clients. Manages inventory levels in work areas and initiates supply orders as needed to ensure smooth departmental operations and minimize redundancy.
  • Quality Assurance: Upholds quality as a fundamental aspect of daily operations, contributing to the development and execution of continuous quality improvement initiatives and participating in interdisciplinary quality improvement efforts. Encourages staff development through approved continuing education opportunities and advocates for ongoing education to enhance the quality of services provided by the department. Stays informed about the latest advancements in the field through relevant seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of job functions and engages in continuous education to ensure high-quality healthcare delivery while practicing resource conservation.
  • Consistently presents a professional demeanor, appearance, and performance in all job-related activities to maintain high standards in healthcare service delivery.
  • Compliance: Achieves acceptable productivity levels in assisting with the development, preparation, and recommendation of annual departmental budgets, while monitoring the efficient use of resources. Ensures regular maintenance of equipment to control costs and conserve resources. Explores new techniques and practices to enhance the quality and efficiency of patient care services. Assigns and monitors staff work, ensuring quality and efficiency in departmental operations while providing supervisory support as needed. Aids in planning both short-term and long-term projects, providing constructive feedback to staff to foster communication and understanding.
  • Integrates ethical judgment with technical expertise within the hospital and laboratory's policy and legal frameworks during decision-making and procedural execution.
  • Exhibits initiative in adapting to changes or unexpected situations, promoting collaboration and minimizing disruptions in the workplace.
  • Adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, following safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards. Collaboration: Establishes and nurtures cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience: 3 years
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Licensure: Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the appropriate regulatory body or holds a temporary or pending permit.
Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is highly preferred.
