Clinical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at The University of New Orleans.
Job SummaryThe Clinical Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for conducting complex clinical laboratory testing, interpreting data, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct testing and interpret data of highly complex clinical laboratory testing for human specimens.
- Perform chemical, physical, and/or biological analysis of samples to detect, quantify, and characterize substances and organisms of public health or regulatory significance.
- Ensure that samples meet acceptance criteria and maintain proper sample handling according to laboratory procedures and federal and state laws and regulations.
- Use the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to log samples, track samples, enter sample results, and release reports to the Louisiana Department of Health and submitting healthcare organizations.
- Maintain competency for all applicable test methods, including operation and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation and participation in proficiency testing as required by regulatory guidelines.
- Perform routine daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and quality assurance duties.
- Complete non-conformance reports and root cause analysis for quality control failures.
- Maintain awareness and understanding of laboratory safety and security by following all laboratory procedures for properly discarding samples and chemical waste.
- Bachelor's degree in biological, environmental, or chemical science.
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in a biological, chemical, or environmental laboratory.
- Minimum 1 year professional experience with the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Must have a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLC-S) license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Advanced degree.
- Minimum 4 years professional experience in a biological, chemical, or environmental laboratory.
- Minimum 2 years professional experience with the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Minimum 2 years professional experience working within a public health setting.
- Relevant industry certifications.
