Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for conducting laboratory analyses on incoming specimens, delivering critical clinical insights for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of various health conditions. This role emphasizes the importance of quality, efficiency, and safety in executing assigned technical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibits expertise and adheres to testing protocols and policies, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards for both equipment and workspace, while documenting corrective measures for any discrepancies.
  • Prepares necessary reagents, ensures a sufficient inventory of materials for testing procedures, and effectively manages stock to minimize departmental waste and costs.
  • Utilizes clinical judgment to prioritize tasks, identify issues, and propose solutions for testing systems, including engaging with support channels for troubleshooting or arranging service when required.
  • Contributes to the review and enhancement of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards from various governing bodies.
  • Maintains transparent and timely communication across shifts and with management regarding any issues, concerns, or challenges that may impact patient care or operational efficiency.
  • Engages in planning and executing changes through participation in team meetings, task forces, or projects.
  • Participates in competency evaluation programs, as qualified.
Physical Requirements
Operates in a dynamic clinical setting that includes exposure to biohazardous materials and various chemical, fire, and mechanical risks. Responsibilities may require standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting weights ranging from light (20 pounds) to moderately heavy (50 pounds).

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree is mandatory; eligibility for MLT registry or equivalent is required.
  • MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent must be obtained within one year of employment.
