Claims Manager

The Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of a designated office, ensuring compliance with Workers' Compensation laws and regulatory requirements. This role involves formulating and administering company best practices, developing long-range goals and objectives, and analyzing costs, activities, and operations to support the goals of the claims department and CorVel.
This is a remote position that requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to function effectively under time constraints and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the company in a professional manner to internal and external customers and clients
- Direct the performance and development of employees in their department
- Ensure staff compliance with Workers' Compensation laws and mandated regulatory reporting requirements
- Assure peak performance of the team through continued training and coaching, coupled with regular performance evaluations
- Utilize jurisdictional expertise and knowledge of regulatory rules, statutes, and procedures to ensure compliance
- Monitor operational workflow and manage appropriate staffing levels and staff retention strategies
- Develop and oversee the implementation of common claim practices and procedures
- Direct and control the review and settlement of high-dollar or potential high-dollar claims, as well as any claims beyond the authority of subordinate claims personnel
- Promote operational efficiency and quality by continuously improving processes, people, and systems to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality
- Ensure consistent and complete compliance with CorVel's policies and procedures
- Additional projects and duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for customer contact, negotiation, presentations, project management, and personnel management
- Effective quantitative, analytical, and interpretive skills
- Excellent leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate staff and obtain results through teamwork
- Ability to function effectively under time constraints, consistently meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment
- Ability to travel overnight and attend meetings
- Ability to remain poised in stressful situations and communicate diplomatically via telephone, computer, fax, correspondence, etc.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize common computer applications
- Strong interpersonal, time management, project management, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of tact and professionalism
- Knowledge of the entire claims administration, case management, and cost containment solution as applicable to Workers' Compensation
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and equivalent industry-related experience, with a record of steady advancement in Workers' Compensation claims administration
- Minimum of 6 years' comprehensive workers' compensation administration experience
- Minimum of 2 years recent supervisory or management experience
- Current license or certification in Workers' Compensation must be maintained throughout employment with CorVel
- Self-Insured Certificate preferred
Pay Range:
CorVel uses a market-based approach to pay, and our salary ranges may vary depending on your location. Pay rates are established taking into account federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements, geographic location differential, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal employee equity, and market conditions. Our ranges may be modified at any time.
For leveled roles (I, II, III, Senior, Lead, etc.), new hires may be slotted into a different level, either up or down, based on assessment during the interview process, taking into consideration experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role. The level may impact the salary range and these adjustments would be clarified during the offer process.
Pay Range: $79,704 – $132,692
