Role Overview:
The Category Merchandise Manager is responsible for shaping the strategy and driving the growth of the business within assigned categories. This includes product selection, vendor negotiations, promotional activities, and providing leadership to the merchandising team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the performance of assigned categories, focusing on growth, profitability, and enhancing customer experience.
- Develop competitive merchandise assortment plans that align with financial goals.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with both existing and potential vendors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the vendor community, demonstrating flexibility in negotiation approaches.
- Lead the development of sales and margin plans, along with sales forecasts for the designated categories.
- Communicate merchandising strategies effectively to cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution.
- Align strategies with business operations while understanding operational goals and challenges.
- Manage pricing for assigned categories, including price indexing and achieving price targets.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to create pricing, promotional, and campaign strategies.
- Continuously monitor merchandising performance, responding swiftly to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Provide leadership and training to the merchandising team, offering regular feedback and professional development opportunities.
- Establish and uphold a reputation for credibility and responsiveness in the marketplace.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in merchandising or category management. Strong negotiation skills, decision-making capabilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Proven analytical and organizational skills are also required.
