About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Specialist to join our finance team. The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of progressive experience in a comprehensive accounting environment, preferably in local government or an Associate degree in Accounting and 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with statutes, generally accepted accounting principles and internal control policies.
  • Administers the City's credit cards with payments, postings, analysis, and internal auditing.
  • Reconciles monthly credit card statements.
  • Prepare monthly sales tax filing and yearly sales tax reimbursement.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed assets through acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Complete CIP and fixed assets reconciliation and reporting for annual ACFR submission.
  • Work with city engineers and capital project managers to monitor, track costs, and capitalize fixed assets per the City's policies.
  • Participates in new and developing projects which could include capital improvements, special projects, expanding services, renovations to existing facilities, etc.
  • Prepare the 5-year update of the Capital Improvement Plans.
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciliations for monthly general ledger close, assists in the preparation and distribution of financial statements.
  • Reviews budget and cost statements for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to government accounting standards.
  • Responsible for assisting with reviewing all activity in both the General and Enterprise fund to check current spending level, reviewing current expenses, encumbrances and months or days remaining in fiscal year.
  • Assists employees with questions regarding the financial system, general ledger problems, the interpretation of accounting and general ledger accounts and procedures, and in resolving budget and accounting problems.
  • Prepare varied reports and presentations for staff, City Officials, City Council, and external auditors at the direction of the Assistant Finance Director.
  • Participate in software testing and upgrades using Tyler-MUNIS financial system.
  • Offers corrective actions plans where necessary.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
