Job Overview

The Community Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in the Mobility Division by facilitating community engagement initiatives and implementing various projects aimed at enhancing stakeholder involvement. Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will:

  • Design and execute comprehensive community engagement strategies that promote public involvement in the Mobility Division's planning efforts, focusing on inclusivity for underrepresented groups.
  • Develop and manage digital tools for public interaction and feedback.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of diverse data to enrich public discussions.
  • Effectively communicate complex information to a varied audience through multiple platforms.
  • Foster strong relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders, ensuring a robust network of allies and community partners.
  • Assist interdisciplinary teams in planning neighborhood or street projects.
  • Organize and facilitate public events, meetings, and focus groups in various formats.
  • Stay informed about and implement innovative outreach practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of community engagement activities, including contact information and meeting notes.
  • Coordinate language interpretation and translation services for public gatherings.
  • Ensure engagement opportunities are equitable and accessible, empowering constituents to voice their opinions regarding community development.
  • Occasionally perform fieldwork, including data collection related to transportation and public space usage.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in public policy, transportation planning, communications, or a related field, accompanied by three years of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the necessary skills for the role will also be considered. Experience in urban planning, community organizing, or customer service is preferred.

Special Skills: Proficiency in languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian-Kreyol, Nepali, or others is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge: Familiarity with web design principles, survey methodologies, and data processing techniques. Understanding of best practices in public engagement within community planning contexts is preferred.

Abilities: Capability to collaborate effectively with various city departments, interpret engineering plans, and perform field data collection. Ability to synthesize findings for diverse audiences.

Skills: Strong public speaking, customer service, planning, and analytical skills, particularly with tools like Microsoft Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are essential.

Work Environment

The work setting includes typical office conditions with occasional outdoor exposure. The role may require attendance at evening meetings and fieldwork in varying weather conditions.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Minimal physical demands are expected, primarily involving sitting, with some walking and standing. The role may require agility in navigating construction sites or uneven terrain.
