Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Safety and Environmental Coordinator to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our Safety and Emergency Management department, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our patients, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Rounds and Hazard Surveillance
    • Conduct regular environmental rounds at all campus locations to identify and mitigate potential hazards
    • Disseminate reports and recommendations to department heads and other stakeholders
  • Safety Audits and Inspections
    • Perform safety and construction audits to ensure compliance with regulations and standards
    • Disseminate safety-related information to department heads and others as needed
  • Program Development and Maintenance
    • Assist with the development and maintenance of safety programs and databases
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve safety and reduce risk
  • Drills and Training
    • Assist with fire and other emergency/disaster drills to ensure preparedness and response
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Serve as a liaison with Children's National departments, external customers, and visitors
    • Respond to inquiries and provide information and clarification on policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field
  • Experience
    • 2 years of experience in environmental safety, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing work environment
    • Strong presentation and training skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field
  • Certification in Environmental Health and Safety
