Educational Support Specialist

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Classroom Management and Learning Environment

  • Assist the Teacher in promoting positive classroom management and delivering effective instruction to all learners, including in small groups and one-on-one settings.
  • Provide updates on student performance and behavior.
  • Ensure the health and safety of students by adhering to established protocols; maintain a secure, organized, and clean learning space.
  • Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing lessons as directed by the Teacher; oversee student drills, practices, and assignments across various subjects; collaborate with the Teacher regarding lesson plans and materials tailored to student needs.
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the Teacher.

Student Supervision

  • Oversee students both inside and outside the classroom as assigned.
  • Take responsibility for the safety and well-being of each child.

Instructional Materials and Administrative Tasks

  • Assist the Teacher in sustaining a functional classroom environment, including setup, materials, devices, and bulletin boards.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and activities, as well as implement lesson plans.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of child development principles and educational models.
  • Flexibility in adapting to day-to-day school environments.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Able to build and maintain positive, effective relationships with the principal, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Capable of managing moderate stress levels.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Ethical and discreet team player.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a professional role model within a Catholic context.
  • Support the philosophy, policies, and objectives of the institution, along with the decisions made by the Principal and Administrators.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures outlined in the relevant handbooks.
  • Collaborate as part of a team.
  • Participate in faculty, administrative, and other necessary meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, abilities, or physical demands necessary. Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Coursework in child development preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in educational programming and working with students as a Teacher or educational aide preferred.
  • Prior experience supervising children.
  • Training sufficient to perform tasks assigned by the Principal and/or Teacher.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with all stakeholders.
  • English required; bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese) preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with school information systems.
  • Ability to operate classroom devices (e.g., cameras, projectors).
  • Familiarity with Workday or willingness to learn.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, lift, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Can lift up to 10 lbs. in compliance with safety standards.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Handles exposure to varying climate conditions.
  • Can operate standard office equipment.
  • Required levels of vision, hearing, and speaking.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work evenings and weekends if necessary.
  • Must understand and accept the mission of the Catholic Church.
  • Must support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and its mission.

COMPENSATION: $25.71 – $29.77 per hour, based on education and experience.
