Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Accounting Specialist is responsible for the preparation and management of financial documentation to monitor the organization's assets, liabilities, income and expenses, tax obligations, and other related financial activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts general cost accounting and associated tasks for the organization.
  • Generates monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss reports.
  • Processes daily contractor settlements and records accounts payable and invoices in the general ledger.
  • Compiles reports on maintenance expenditures, analyzes data, and presents findings on a weekly basis.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least once a month, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from financial institutions.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; oversees accounts receivable collections.
  • Confirms and/or completes payment of invoices related to accounts payable and ensures charges are allocated to the correct accounts.
  • Assists external auditors by gathering necessary account information and documentation for the annual audit.
  • Files tax documentation with federal, state, and local government entities.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs additional related tasks as assigned.
  • This position may require work responsibilities outside of standard business hours, and occasional travel may be necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of general financial accounting and cost accounting principles.
  • Possesses analytical skills with the capacity to effectively communicate with individuals outside of the Finance department.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Capability to accurately prepare month-end work papers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, as well as accounting software.
  • Must demonstrate a proactive commitment to the corporate values of Warren Transport and the success of all staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role operates within a professional office setting. The position routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is necessary, which may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as needed.
