Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician II to join the Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program team. This role primarily supports the day-to-day operations of the program, providing exceptional care to animals in shelter, clinical, and community settings.
Key Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a faculty clinician, serve as primary anesthetist for MSMP surgeries at local shelters, Small Animal Community Practice, and College of Veterinary Medicine locations.
- Provide patient care, including Fear Free restraint, medical treatment, specimen collection, and diagnostic imaging.
- Perform duties of a scrub/rotating nurse on sterilization surgeries and ancillary surgical procedures.
- Carefully monitor and assess patients.
- Implement established medical and anesthetic protocols.
- Provide instruction and support to veterinary students, interns, and externs in clinical and anesthetic techniques.
- Associate's degree in veterinary technology and New York State licensure.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Valid driver's license with ability to drive a large mobile van to local shelters on workdays.
- Reliability, excellent communication, team building, and organizational skills.
- Enthusiasm for teaching students, house officers, and other technicians.
- Previous experience instructing vet students or vet tech students.
- Advanced training with specialty certification in an area of veterinary technology.
- Experience working in an animal shelter or high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic.
- Working knowledge of basic software programs, such as Workday, VetView, Excel, EzyVet, and Pet Point.
