Position Summary and Qualifications

This is a Full-Time Day Shift position, Monday - Friday.

The Clinical Transplant Nurse Coordinator will deliver patient care within the Registered Nurse Practice Act, focusing on nursing processes and outcomes for bone marrow transplant patients and living donors. Our program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and all responsibilities align with the standards set by this accreditation, as well as those of the Joint Commission and CMS. The coordinator will assist recipient coordinators in identifying suitable donors for stem cell donation. Critical thinking, time management skills, and computer proficiency are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the health status and needs of patients (individual and family) through the interpretation of health data and preventive practices in collaboration with patients and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Coordinate activities to secure a donor for patients with blood cancers.
  • Utilize a systematic approach to provide personalized, goal-oriented nursing care.
  • Implement nursing care within the RN's scope of practice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Develop and execute educational plans for patients regarding health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Offer education, emotional support, and age-appropriate care to foster partnerships with patients and their families.
  • Manage the care of multiple patients (individual and family) through the planning of transplant care communicated to other healthcare team members.
  • Communicate patient responses and outcomes to therapeutic interventions concerning transplant and living donor patients. Apply critical thinking to analyze clinical data and current literature for informed decision-making in nursing practice.
  • Provide information to licensed and unlicensed staff in compliance with current BNE rules in a structured healthcare setting for patients with predictable and unpredictable health needs.
  • Act as a liaison with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to evaluate human, financial, and material resources for patients and families. Facilitate information flow among medical, ancillary, nursing, financial, and insurance personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Professional Nursing, Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care hospital within the last 3 years required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in managing bone marrow transplant patients preferred.
  • Background in oncology is beneficial.
  • OCN certification preferred.
  • BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required.
