Job Title: Controller

Martha's Table is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting operations. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for overseeing accounting, accounts payable, receivables, and reporting. You will also manage annual budget development and facilitate annual audits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand fund accounting as it relates to restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Process financial data and develop financial statements and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Manage annual organizational and department budget development, analyze department and organizational profit and loss statements, and identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Oversee all program and project/grant accounting and ensure expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets.
  • Manage the work of the Accounting team, including AP, AR, reconciliations, allocations, and month-end close.
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls and processes that safeguard assets and ensure validity of transactions.
  • Assist the CFO in constantly reviewing and improving accounting and finance systems and processes.
  • Facilitate audit preparation, including accounting, federal, and retirement plan audits.
  • Manage individual team members' professional development.
  • Provide leadership in internal communications and trainings as it relates to finance and accounting matters.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of related not-for-profit work experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and related non-profit accounting standards.
  • Analytical skills in terms of budgets, financials, and cash management.
  • Attention to detail, ability to effectively manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with Word, Excel, Google applications, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of Financial Edge is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred but not required.
Education and Training Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and/or 10 years of job-related professional experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years in a management role preferred.
